Small businesses are recognizing the benefits of using social media to build community locally, to level the playing field with larger competitors and to reach and connect with new prospects. There has been a 66% growth in social media use by small businesses in the last year. Whilst Facebook is still the predominant social network for small businesses, 70% are now using Twitter and over half post regularly to LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest. 43% of small businesses spend 6 or more hours per week on social media and, not surprisingly, finding fresh and meaningful content takes the most time.
