The Out-Smarts Podcast #29 – Twittering wtih David Watts

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Our last podcast of the week is with David Watts.  David is  Notary Public, not exactly the kind of industry one might expect an avid Twitterer to come from but David is carving a Twitter niche and using the micro blog to drive awareness of what he does, to connect with potential clients as well as to keep up to date with topics that interest him.  It was a pleasure to have him join me for the Out-Smarts podcast today.

The Out-Smarts Podcast #28 – Twittering with Sue Clement

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

I can’t believe our Twitter podcast marathon week is almost over.  In our penultimate cast today, we talk with Sue Clement of Success Coaching.  Little did I know earlier this year when I encouraged Sue to start using Twitter as part of her marketing mix that she would take it to heart. I should have known better!  In a few short months she has built a following of over 1300 “Tweepl” and  is deriving many benefits from using Twitter to listen, learn and to get the word out.  Hear how she puts Twitter to good effect.

The Out-Smarts Podcast #25 – Twittering with Marc from Amuse Consulting

Monday, May 25th, 2009

This year Twitter has grown from 6 million users at the start of the year to over 16 million today. Given its phenomenal growth (also know as the Oprah effect), I thought it would be a good idea to do a podcast with some local business people, talking to them about their experiences using Twitter. The initial idea was to have one podcast but this has morphed and I’ve decided to post a podcast a day all week. It has turned into a podcast marathon (our first and maybe our last – we’ll see how it goes!).

The first podcast is with Marc Smith from Amuse Consulting an entrepreneur I met at a recent BNI event. Marc’s company helps people and businesses organize events of all kinds and from what I hear they do an amazing job. He’s been using Twitter for a few months and is obviously getting a lot out of the experience.

Listen and enjoy!

The Out-Smarts Podcast 24 with Todd Sieling

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Its been a year since our last podcast with Todd Sieling of Corvus Consulting. Back then I was new to this podcasting lark and collected almost 2 hours of material complete with lots of groovy background noise thanks to a certain coffee shop ( it took me almost a week to edit down!).

This time our podcast is much more easy on your ears and it even has some humor (its geeky but its humor nonetheless). Todd talks about what he’s been up to since last spring, the demise of Magnolia, SXSW and why he hates the term “social media”. Enjoy.

The Out-Smarts Podcast #23 – Social Media in Canada with Chris Breikss

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

Local online marketing marketing company 6s Marketing recently conducted a survey of social media use in Canada.  On Friday I talked to 6s Marketing’s co-founder Chris Breikss about the survey, the results and their implications for business. Even I was surprised at some of the findings.  Chris is a busy guy and an absolute pleasure to podcast with so listen and enjoy.

Canadian Social Media Survey

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Whether you like the term social media or not (and many don’t), it looks like these tools are here to stay. In a few short years we’ve gone from getting blank looks and crazy stares when mentioning using social networks or blogs for business, to the current trend towards jumping on the SM bandwagon.  Social media for business is at last becoming mainstream.

We’re not the only ones to notice this. The wonderful 6s Marketing Company based here in Vancouver just published the results of survey it conducted that shows that social media is becoming entrenched as a tool to help build Canadian businesses.

Here are some of the highlights taken from their report:

“Out of the respondents who filled out the survey:

* 69% use Facebook
* 47% use Twitter
* 38% use LinkedIn
* 38% use YouTube
* 29% use Flickr

And guess who gets control over Social Media Marketing efforts? 28% of companies rely on their marketing department to manage their SMM campaigns, while 18% leave it to the upper management.”

We will be podcasting with Chris Breikss of 6s Marketing next week and the survey will be our main topic of conversation so let me know if you have any questions you’d like me to ask Chris.  It’s going to be a great podcast and will be even better with your input!

The Out-Smarts Podcast #21 – Northern Voice 2009

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

We’re celebrating our first year of podcasting with the Out-Smarts podcast, and what better way to do so that by going back to the source of inspiration for one of our first posts: Northern Voice.

This year’s Northern Voice conference for social media and personal bloggers was another resounding success. We talk with attendees to get their take on the highlights of the 2 days, why they attended and what they liked most. Contributors include Ruth Seeley, Tzaddi Gordon, Bruce Sharpe, Raul Pacheco aka Hummingbird604, Gus Fasarolli, Louise Desmarais and the very drole Christine Rondeau.

Thanks to all who contributed and thanks also to the folks at Northern Voice for organizing another great event.
