Twitter is a fabulous tool. Case in fact: recently I connected with Andrea Baxter from Bratface Marketing on Twitter. You might know Andrea from her success as part of the Smart Cookies team that shot to fame following their appearance on Oprah.
Andrea joins us to talk about that meteoric success, how Smart Cookies use social media and about her latest venture Bratface Marketing. Enjoy!

Whether you like the term social media or not (and many don’t), it looks like these tools are here to stay. In a few short years we’ve gone from getting blank looks and crazy stares when mentioning using social networks or blogs for business, to the current trend towards jumping on the SM bandwagon. Social media for business is at last becoming mainstream.
We’re not the only ones to notice this. The wonderful 6s Marketing Company based here in Vancouver just published the results of survey it conducted that shows that social media is becoming entrenched as a tool to help build Canadian businesses.
Here are some of the highlights taken from their report:
“Out of the respondents who filled out the survey:
* 69% use Facebook
* 47% use Twitter
* 38% use LinkedIn
* 38% use YouTube
* 29% use Flickr
And guess who gets control over Social Media Marketing efforts? 28% of companies rely on their marketing department to manage their SMM campaigns, while 18% leave it to the upper management.”
We will be podcasting with Chris Breikss of 6s Marketing next week and the survey will be our main topic of conversation so let me know if you have any questions you’d like me to ask Chris. It’s going to be a great podcast and will be even better with your input!

LinkedIn is one of the fastest growing social networks. It grew by over 500% in 2007 and one of the reasons for its speedy growth is because professionals are recognizing its a great tool to expand your network, establish your expertise and conduct research.

Last month saw our first 2 podcasts and there’s more to come. Wouldn’t you like to share the Podcasting learning process I am going through it so that when its your turn you can learn from my mishaps? This week I recorded the first podcast interview on the hop in a coffee shop near the beach, lots of background noise and all. I was trying out a Belkin plugin for my iPod which worked like a dream. Sound was great, the process to record and upload was all automated and very simple – perfect. Podcasting couldn’t be easier.
I was lulled into a false sense of security however. The problems began when I tried to do some editing with Garageband. Not an easy task as I found out and this isn’t my first time using it either by a long shot. Garageband isn’t as intuitive as I’d like it to be, its slow and cumbersome. And wizard would help – if you’re listening Apple. Now I am trying out Audacity but off course how to import a file from an iPod to Audacity: the fun goes on.
There is another Podcast planned soon this time over Skype which brings more technology to the mix guaranteeing another interesting experience. With any luck the interview recorded this week will finally be published by then. Watch out for the uncut version – coming soon!
My experiences have led me to believe that Podcasting is far from being a medium for the masses. Not yet anyway. Before it can become mainstream, it has to go through a simplification process making it easier for the non tech majority to adopt and enjoy its benefits. In the meantime, if Podcasting is something on your corporate agenda, hire a professional and save yourself some pain.
